Five-homer day powers Barrington into school record book

Barrington's bats belted their way into school softball history on Saturday at the Fields of Dreams.

While sweeping a doubleheader from visiting Libertyville 11-1 and 12-4, the Fillies slugged five more home runs and now have 33 for the season, breaking the former mark of 30 set by the 2007 team that finished second in the Class AA state tourney

Antioch's 2010 team and O'Fallon's 2011 squad hold the IHSA record for most home runs in a season with 51 apiece.

Fittingly enough, it was senior third baseman Loren Krzysko's 3-run blast in the second inning of Game 1 that set the Fillies' school record.

The Arkansas-bound Krzysko (3-for-3, 2 homers, triple, 5 RBI) is also the school's all-time home run leader with 35.

She also hit the Fillies' 29th homer in the first inning before Raegan Fingerman (2-for-3, RBI) hit the record tying 30th moments later in the same inning.

Maggie O'Hara (2-for-2, 3 RBI) also had a homer in the second inning, giving Barrington four in the game.

Sam Rosenfeld went 2-for-2 and scored a run for the Fillies while teammate Tess Bolger had a double.

Sophomore Keenan Dolezal picked up the five-inning win with 6 strikeouts and 1 walk.

In game 2, Katie Dehnert (3-for-4, double, RBI) belted her second homer of the season.

Rosenfeld (3-for-4, RBI) and Alexa Rebecca (2-for-4, triple, 4 RBI) were other multiple hitters for the Fillies. Krista Moore and Erin Ward also doubled for the Fillies, who improved to 20-1 becoming the 21st straight team to win 20 or more games under coach Perry Peterson.

Dolezal (14-1) also notched the win in Game 2, striking out six and walking one in the final 5 innings.

Palatine takes third: Palatine (9-6), which has won 8 of its last 11, defeated McHenry 4-3 in the third-place game of the Rolling Meadows tournament.

Trailing 3-0, the Pirates scored twice in the sixth and seventh innings as Jules Udoni (1-0) earned the win by retiring the side in order in the sixth inning. Dom Boisvert went the first five innings and Megan Hedstrom got the save in the seventh.

Lauren Logan went 2-for-4 with 2 RBI and 1 run while Shannon Surell was 2-for-3. Tori Walzak, Jamie Haze, Kenzie Craver and Hedstrom all had doubles.

The Warriors scored all their runs in the bottom of the fifth inning. A fourth run was prevented when left fielder Surell threw to catcher Logan at the plate for the final out.

In the semifinals, Palatine dropped a 3-2 decision to Bartlett, which went ton to defeated Geneva 2-0 for the title.

Logan (3-for-4, 2 runs, 2 RBI) belted a pair of homers for the Pirates runs in the third and seventh innings against Bartlett.

Hedstrom (7-5) suffered the loss although she gave up only 2 hits and struck out six. Courtney English had a triple for Palatine.

Rolling Meadows wins two: The Mustangs (10-8) won the consolation championship of its own tournament with 8-7 victory over Lane Tech.

With one out in the bottom of the eighth inning, senior shortstop Sam Anderson (3-for-5, 2 doubles, 3 RBI) doubled home freshman Kika Mahoe with the winning run.

Other multiple hitters for Meadows were Hannah Whidden (2-for-4, double) and Jenny Watson (2-for-3, double). Emily Hattory also doubled.

Sara Brunlieb pitched 4 innings (4 strikeouts) to post the win.

The senior ace (7-8) also worked the first 6 innings to get the win in the Mustangs' 7-1 win over Glenbrook South in the consolation semifinal.

Brunlieb also went 3-for-3 with an RBI.

Also pacing the offense were Anderson (3-for-4), Chloe Prodanovic (2-for-4, 2 RBI), Lane Winkler (2-for-4), Emily Hattory (double) and Sarah Caprio (double).

Maine West splits: Lane Tech defeated the Warriors 6-3 in the consolation game Saturday at the Rolling Meadows tournament. Holly Wengerski (2-for-4, 2 runs, home run), Renee Pond (2-for-4, triple, RBI) and Gina Larucci (2-for-4, double) led the Warriors offense. Maine West pitcher Tara Nykiel (2-1) threw 5 innings with 8 strikeouts.

In their second game, the Warriors (9-3) topped Whitney Young 5-1 behind pitcher Ariel Valles (7-2) who threw a 4-hitter with 6 strikeouts.

Wengerski (3-for-4, 1 run, RBI), Renee Pond (3-for-, triple, 2 RBI) and Brie Montmarquette (1-for-3, double) paced the offense.

Elk Grove splits: Elk Grove junior Megan Eul (7-2) fired a 1-hitter to shut out Glenbrook North 2-0 in Game 1 of the doubleheader in Northbrook.

Sophomore Brianna Leach (2-for-3) had an RBI single in the third inning to score Becca Maher (2-for-3) and an RBI groundout in the fifth brining home Aleece Duffy (2-for-3).

Leach also went 2-for-3 in Game 2 which the host Spartans won 6-1 over the Grenadiers (14-6).

Neither team committed an error in either game.

Schaumburg sweeps: Schaumburg (12-3) posted 5-3 and 10-0 (five inning) victories over visiting Niles West in the nonconference twin bill.

Dana Giannelli (3-for-4, double) had the game winning 2-run homer in the bottom of the seventh in Game 1. Paige Alt went 2-for-3 with a double and 3 RBI for the Saxons while Hannah Kerr and Shannon Felde each had hits.

Senior Rene Kakareka (2-0) earned the win.

In Game 2, Alt (1-0) notched her first varsity win as the Saxons blanked the Wolves. Alt also went 2-for-3 with a double and 3 RBI, making her 4-for-6 for the day with 6 RBI.

Other multiple hitters for the Saxons were Gabi Martinez (2-for-3, double), Hannah Kerr (2-for-4), Giannelli (2-for-3, RBI) and Felde (2-for-3, double, triple, 2 RBI). Teammates Christina Candotti and Kakareka also had hits.

Giannelli was 5-for-7 in the twin bill with 3 RBI.

Prospect drops two: Stevenson swept Prospect (11-3) in the nonconference doubleheader 9-2 and 10-4 in Lincolnshire.

Rachel Trebswether went 3-for-4 in Game 1 for Prospect and she scored a run on Casey Lenski's RBI single.

In Game 2, Stevenson batted around in both of the first 2 innings to build an 8-0 lead.

Prospect scored in the top of the fifth Lenski was hit by a pitch with two outs. Meghan Doyle lined a triple to right for the run.

Prospect added 3 runs in the sixth when Ally Schuldt (2-for-4) and Delilah Malczewski singled to lead off the inning. Emma Riordan followed with a single to load the bases with no outs. Trebswether drew a bases-loaded walk and Maggie Pancini lined a 2-run single to center.

“I don't want to take anything away from Stevenson,” said Prospect coach Jim Adair. “They belted the ball all over the park and we've got to tighten our pitching and defense. I was impressed with how Rachel Trebswether and Ally Schuldt hit the ball today.”

Morgan Park Academy 13, Christian Liberty 12: Beth Cunningham had a triple for the Chargers.
