Ice Age Trail land trust applies for accreditation

CROSS PLAINS, Wis. — The land trust that oversees the Ice Age Trail in Wisconsin is applying for accreditation.

The trail is 1,000 miles long and meanders from far northwestern Wisconsin to southern Wisconsin back up to the Green Bay area.

The Ice Age Trail Alliance is a nonprofit organization established in 1958 that works to protect and promote the Ice Age Trail.

The alliance has applied to the Land Trust Accreditation Commission, which is a volunteer board of land conservation and nonprofit management experts from around the country.

The commission conducts an extensive review of each applicant’s policies and programs. They also seek public comment.

The accreditation seal recognizes land conservation organizations that meet national standards for excellence.
