Solbrig leads Lakes victory

Mason Solbrig slammed 16 kills, as Lakes’ boys volleyball team outlasted Grant 25-12, 25-27, 25-18 in North Suburban Conference action Wednesday night.

Lakes (12-7, 5-1) also received 7 kills from Richard Galat, who added 17 assists. Nick Powell led the Eagles defensively with 13 digs, while Dalton Solbrig added 5 blocks. James Olson had 4 kills and 3 aces, while the Solbrig brothers each served 3 aces as well.

Grant got 3 kills apiece from Eduardo Castillo and Travis Sancken. Austin Gaylor served 13 of 13 with 3 aces, and Frank Tokarz registered 12 digs.

Mundelein d. Libertyville: Blake Burton and John Lentz pounded 14 and 11 kills, respectively, for the Mustangs in their 22-25, 25-18, 25-12 win in a North Suburban thriller.

Mundelein (14-10, 3-2) also received 7 kills from Joey Tylka. David Everding delivered 4 aces, while Victor Magana had 26 assists and 3 aces.

Warren d. Zion-Benton: The Blue Devils won 25-16, 25-17, as Zach Schultz and Bryant Holland had 6 and 5 kills, respectively. Holland also had 17 digs, and Max Bongratz served 3 aces for Warren (12-6, 3-2).

Vernon Hills d. Antioch: Jake Baruch had 13 assists, 6 digs, 1 block and what coach Chris Curry called a “well-timed kill” on 3 swings, as the Cougars won 25-18, 25-8 in North Suburban play.

Vernon Hills (15-3, 5-0) got 4 kills apiece from TJ Flis and Danny Rosenstock. Sophomore Dylan DeBoer had 4 aces and 4 digs.
