Illinois Secretary of State encourages online renewal

Illinois Secretary of State Jesse White says Earth Day is a good reminder that Illinois motorists can go green by registering to receive vehicle renewal notices via email.

His office says registration tables are being set up in downtown Chicago’s James R. Thompson Center through Tuesday where the public can submit email information to customer service representatives.

White says it’ll save paper and money.

To register, drivers will need a vehicle registration card or renewal notice.

The paperless renewals began in September. More than 330,000 vehicle registration renewals have been sent through email. White says about 14,000 people each week are signing onto the service.

The project is estimated to save about $400,000 annually.
