Roof catches fire in Libertyville

Libertyville firefighters put out a small house fire Sunday afternoon.

The fire at 929 Windhaven Road was reported at 4:16 p.m. by a neighbor.

Libertyville Assistant Fire Chief Mike Cloe said the fire marshal is on the scene investigating the cause, but it appears that the homeowner was burning something in a container outside the home when one of the embers ignited something, perhaps pine needles, on the roof.

The fire was contained to the roof, Cloe said, and did not extend into the house.

No one was injured. It is not known at this time how much damage was inflicted.

Firefighters were able to water down the roof in time to stop the fire from spreading.

“(They) got water on the fire quick and did a great job,” Cloe said.

Several departments assisted, including Mundelein and Countryside, while mutual aid companies covered the station.
