Flood areas, road closures updates for Wheeling

Flooding continued to cause changing road closures and affect homes in Wheeling Friday morning.

Though Milwaukee Avenue was able to reopen, Wolf Road between Dundee and Manchester, Jackson Drive, and Wheeling Road between Dundee and Hintz were closed, village Manager Jon Sfondilis announced.

Flooding continues to affect about 100 homes. Residents of these neighborhoods were contacted through the village’s Reverse 9-1-1 system and a temporary shelter remains available at the Wheeling Park District Recreation Center, 3 Community Blvd.

Public works crews are pumping flooded areas and continuing to monitor and respond to changing conditions throughout the area. The Des Plaines River is expected to crest by early afternoon and conditions should stabilize soon after.

Village crews will be working throughout the weekend to continue to respond to conditions and assess damage, village officials said in a news release. No significantly additional rain is expected this weekend.
