Two Des Plaines residents killed in Tri-State crash

Illinois State Police said two Des Plaines residents were killed in an early morning crash in the southbound lanes of the Tri-State Tollway near Lake Street in Elmhurst.

At 5:47 a.m. police received the report of a semitrailer truck collision with a black 2005 Nissan in a chain-reaction crash that involved four more vehicles.

Police said the semitrailer truck, which was carrying paper, hit the Nissan from the rear, pushing the car onto a bridge deck, where it hung precariously over Lake Street.

Police identified the two victims as front-seat passenger Aley Kizhakkeananthakulam, 56, and rear-seat passenger Kunjukunju Krishnan, 72.

The driver of the car was transported to Loyola Hospital by a Northlake ambulance, police said.

The driver of the semitrailer truck was not hurt, police said.

It’s unknown how many others suffered injuries.

No tickets have been issued, and the accident remains under investigation.
