2nd man arrested in attack on bat-wielding merchant

A second suspect has been arrested in the shooting of a Chicago shop owner whose resistance with a baseball bat was captured by security cameras.

Keith Owens of Richfield, Minn., was charged Wednesday with attempted murder and armed robbery in the attack at the convenience store on the city’s North Side.

The 51-year-old Owens was denied bail during a bond hearing. Authorities did not say where the suspect was arrested.

A videotape shows Luis Quizhpe clobbering one of the robbers, who was holding a gun on the owner’s brother-in-law. The gunman fired multiple shots at Quizhpe, hitting him in the leg.

Last week, 53-year-old Cornell Mack, who was wounded during the attack, was charged with attempted murder and armed robbery. Mack is being held in lieu of $750,000 bail.
