Woman once on most-wanted list sentenced

A suburban woman who was captured after a murder case was featured on television’s “America’s Most Wanted” was sentenced to 45 years in prison for the 2003 murder of a former boyfriend.

The Chicago Sun-Times reported Sherry Halligan was sentenced Tuesday in Cook County court after she waived her right to make a statement before Judge John H. Hynes.

The 54-year-old Halligan vanished in 2004 after being charged in the murder of Dennis Campbell at her home in La Grange. She was arrested in July 2010 in Palos Hills after someone recognized her from media coverage and called the FBI.

Halligan was convicted in February after a five-day bench trial during which she asserted she suffered from battered woman’s syndrome.
