Wis. mom could get light sentence for ‘57 death
SHEBOYGAN, Wis. — A 76-year-old Sheboygan woman who pleaded no contest to killing her infant more than half a century ago could receive a sentence of less than two months.
Ruby C. Klokow (KLOH’-koh) was convicted in February in the 1957 death of her daughter. Prosecutors agreed to recommend a sentence of 45 days in jail and 10 years of probation, citing her age and medical issues.
Judge Angela Sutkiewicz will consider the recommendation at sentencing Monday afternoon.
When the baby’s death was initially investigated Klokow told detectives the 6-month-old girl rolled off the couch and bumped her head. The death was ruled accidental, but the case was reopened when her adult son came forward with stories of horrific child abuse.
Defense attorney Kirk Obear says Klokow is remorseful for her daughter’s death.
