Ralph Frese memorial canoe trip is Sunday

Forest Preserve District of Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle, General Superintendent Arnold Randall and Marc Miller, director of the Illinois Department of Natural Resources, will join representatives from the Illinois Paddling Council and hundreds of dedicated canoeists and kayakers Sunday to celebrate the legacy of canoe legend Ralph Frese with a paddle trip down the North Branch of the Chicago River. Frese, who founded the Des Plaines River Canoe marathon, died Dec. 10, 2012 at 86. A short talk to honor his memory will precede the 10 a.m. boat launch below the Skokie Lagoons at Willow Road, east of the Edens at Forestway Drive. The trip ends at the Linne Woods Canoe Access. The public is invited to paddle along. Visit www.fpdcc.com for details.
