Man gets 14 years for $81 robbery in Villa Park

An $81 robbery resulted in a 14-year prison sentence for Wilbur Sobota.

The 30-year-old Maywood man was sentenced Monday by DuPage County Judge George Bakalis after having pleaded guilty to aggravated robbery in March, according to court records.

About 6 a.m. Jan. 19, Sobota entered RC’s Grill restaurant, 117 W. St. Charles Road in Villa Park. Authorities said he took $81 from a cash register while threatening two people with a cellphone in his pocket, saying it was a gun.

Sobota was arrested as he ran east about a block from the scene. Police recovered the stolen money.

Sobota, of the 100 block of Oak Avenue, has been in police custody about three months, which will count toward his prison term.
