Setting record straight on Gurnee Mills

There have been many comments made by a mayoral candidate in Gurnee that are inaccurate, and I would like to set the record straight:

1. Our company’s policy is not to contribute to political campaigns and we have not done so for any candidate in the Gurnee mayoral race.

2. The funding provided by the Village of Gurnee was used to do major site work, infrastructure changes and required mall renovations in order to accommodate the Macy’s box. Macy’s is investing their own capital in building out their new full-line department store at Gurnee Mills.

3. The village of Gurnee has shown great foresight in helping to facilitate the evolution of Gurnee Mills into a true hybrid property, offering the top names in both full price and value retailing, which cements the center’s standing in the market and as importantly as the largest sales tax generator for the village.

I appreciate all of the time and effort that Mayor Kovarik and village staff have put into helping attract the most dominant department store in the country to our project, and applaud her foresight in protecting the village’s income stream for future generations.
