New Judson president keynote speaker at Community Breakfast

Submitted by Judson University

Judson University recently announced its incoming president, Gene C. Crume Jr., will be the keynote speaker for the 2013 Community Breakfast on Wednesday, May 8. The breakfast will be from 7:30 to 9 a.m. in the Lindner Fitness Center, 1151 N. State St., Elgin.

Crume will join Judson University this spring as the institution’s sixth university president. Before coming to Judson, he served as an independent consultant working with institutions such as Saint Mary’s University of Minnesota and the Peru State College Foundation (Nebraska) on issues related to external relations and strategic planning. He spent a significant portion of his career at his alma mater, Western Kentucky University, where he served as the executive director of the WKU Alumni Association and taught as an adjunct instructor. He has also served as a keynote speaker at college commencements, leadership seminars and association meetings. Crume has wrote articles for national magazines, newspapers and academic journals.

The annual community prayer breakfast also will include the presentation of the D. Ray Wilson Volunteer Service Award, given to the candidate who has contributed to the greater good within the Fox Valley community by voluntarily serving others’ physical, emotional, intellectual or spiritual needs. In remembrance of his faithful service to the greater Elgin community, the award was named for Fox Valley civic leader and event founder D. Ray Wilson, who died in 2003.

Candidates must live and volunteer within the greater Elgin community, or East Dundee, West Dundee, Carpentersville, Gilberts, Sleepy Hollow, South Elgin, Wayne, Plato Center, St. Charles, Bartlett, Schaumburg, Hoffman Estates, Streamwood and Barrington.

Nominations for the D. Ray Wilson Volunteer Service Award will remain open until Friday, April 12. All submissions can be filed at www.JudsonU.edu/communityaward.

Tickets for the event are $18 for individuals. Table sponsorships can be purchased for $350, which includes recognition and a table reservation for eight guests. To register for the event by the April 23 deadline, go to www.JudsonU.edu/prayerbreakfast.
