Felde in fine form for Schaumburg

Schaumburg improved to 6-1 and 1-0 in the Mid-Suburban West as sophomore Shannon Felde (2-1) threw a 5-hitter with 12 strikeouts for a 6-1 win at Prospect on Monday.

Felde (2-for-4) also belted a home run and a double for 3 RBI while teammates Dana Giannelli (double) and Carly Brossard (double) also went 2-for-4.

Elaine Walker, Roxanne Kakareka, Julia Bellinger and Kelly Loughman also had hits for the Saxons.

Prospect (1-7, 0-1) received hits from freshman Rachel Trebswether, sophomore Casey Lenski, senior Jill Sadowski and sophomore Maggie Pancini.

Palatine 14, Elk Grove 11: Tori Walzak (2-for-4, 4 RBI), Megan Hedstrom (2-for-5), Jamie Haze (3-for-5), Courtney English (2-for-5), McKenzie Craver (2-for-5) and Lauren Logan (double) led the offense for visiting Palatine (4-4, 1-0).

Hedstrom (struck out four as the winning pitcher.

Aleece Duffy (3-for-4), 2 RBI), Elisa Payne (3-for-5), Brianna Leach (3-for-5, 4 RBI, double) and Megan Eul (3-for-3) were top hitters for Elk Grove.

Elk Grove senior Rylee Romano (2-0) struck out three in the first 5 innings before Megan Eul (4-1) threw the final two innings.

Hoffman Estates 3, Wheeling 2: Sophomore Charlotte Allen (1-1) struck out eight in the first four innings and was relieved by freshman Tracy Osimowicz who notched the save by allowing only 1 earned run.

Visiting Hoffman Estates (1-4, 1-0) scored all 3 of its runs in the top of the third inning.

Kajal Dalal went 2-for-3 for the Hawks while Sam Acosta, Natalie Biddle and Osimowicz had the other hits for Hoffman.

Taylor Vasey and Anne Janulis each had an RBI in the bottom of the seventh inning when Wheeling (3-3, 0-1) scored its 2 runs and left the tying run on third base.

Fremd 7, Buffalo Grove 1: Senior Kristine Herdegen (2-for-4) led off the top of the seventh with a home run and visiting Fremd (4-3, 1-0) went on to score 6 runs in the inning, breaking open a 1-1 game.

Junior Leigh Farina also doubled for the Vikings, who received a 3-hitter from senior Ashlynne Schwantz (3-1) with 10 strikeouts.

Sophomore pitcher Julia Camardo struck out five and had an RBI single while teammate Erin Barton went 2-for-3 for BG (4-2, 0-1).

Barrington 5, Hersey 0: Maggie O’Hara (3-for-4, double, 2 runs), Krista Moore (2-for-4, RBI), Erin Ward (2-for-4, 1 run) and Raegan Fingerman (2-for-4) led the offense for visiting Barrington (8-0, 1-0).

Keenan Dolezal (6-0) threw a 3-hitter with 5 strikeouts while Sarah Platt (2-1) struck out four and went 2-for-3 at the plate. Alysia Zaucha also had a hit for the Huskies (2-3, 0-1).

Maine West 12, Lane Tech 11: Holly Wengerski (4-for-5, triple, 2 runs), Hanna Udischas (3-for-5, home run, 3 runs, 2 RBI), Abbey Herling (2-for-5, home run, 1 run, 3 RBI) and Brie Montmarquette (2-for-4, double, 1 run, RBI) were top hitters for host Maine West (5-1).

Senior ace Ariel Valles (3-1) earned the win by retiring 11 of the last 12 batters she faced. She also went 1-for-2 at the plate with a double, 1 run and 2 RBI.
