Elk Grove, St. Viator finish 1-2 at Meadows

Elk Grove delivered a 29-27, 25-11 victory over St. Viator to complete a perfect 5-0 run through its opponents in Saturday’s boys volleyball tournament hosted by Rolling Meadows.

The Grens improved to 10-4 after also counting victories over Maine West, Bartlett, Addison Trail and Rolling Meadows.

St. Viator lost to Rolling Meadows 29-27, 25-12, but topped Streamwood, South Elgin and Riverside-Brookfield to claim second place overall. Ben Wolf was a monster on the attack finishing with a team-best 62 kills for the day.

“We played well all but 2 games all day,” said St. Viator coach Chris Boylan, whose team improved to 8-3. “We fought each match but came up short in the end as the kids gave me everything they had.”

Rolling Meadows (6-2) took third place and had team-best efforts from Tom Srnak (27 kills), Brett Frey (81 assists) and Peter Nickle (36 digs).
