COD Fashion Show April 26 to Feature 'Project Runway' Designer Suede

The College of DuPage Fashion Studies program will present “Sketches,” the 2013 Student Fashion Show, featuring “Project Runway” designer Suede at 7 p.m. on Friday, April 26, in the Student Services Center Atrium.

Students from the Fashion Studies program will feature their original work during the show. Acting as the emcee will be Suede, who competed on Season 5 and All Stars Season 2 of the successful television series “Project Runway.” He runs his own SUEDEsays™ brand, which is targeted at the young adult and youth market, has designed a successful line of SUEDEsays™ patterns with Simplicity Creative Group and has just launched a line of signature Special Occasion/Prom Fabrics exclusive to Jo-Ann Fabric & Craft Stores as well as a line of Ready-to-Wear Fabrics exclusive to WalMart Stores. In addition, he has worked with such well-known celebrities as Britney Spears, Mariah Carey and Jessica Simpson.

Suede will also present a free lecture at 1 p.m. on Friday, April 26, in the Student Resource Center, Room 2000. He will discuss working in New York, being on a reality television show, producing and marketing his designs, and the reality of starting your own business.

SUEDEsays™ and Simplicity are sponsoring the “uROCKit™” sewing contest for College of DuPage fashion students to create a garment using a SUEDEsays™ Simplicity or SUEDEsays™ New Look Studio pattern. Submitted garments will be showcased during the College's Student Fashion Show, and Suede will select a Grand Prize Winner, a First Runner-up, a Second Runner-up and a Third Runner-up.

At the end of the show, awards will be presented in such categories as design, tailoring, workmanship and evening wear. One participating student also will be announced as the recipient of a $5,000 scholarship from the Fashion Group International of Chicago.

VIP tickets, which include a meet-and-greet with Suede and priority seating, cost $35, while general seating is $25. For more information, call (630) 942-4000.
