Palatine’s Healthy Living Event is April 6

On Saturday, April 6, Palatine Park District presents the second annual Healthy Living Event consisting of a healthy expo, a 5K run/walk, and a 12-mile bike ride. All events will be held at Birchwood Recreation Center, 435 W. Illinois Ave., in Palatine.

This year’s Healthy Living Expo will showcase vendors, businesses and organizations that promote healthy habits — both personal and environmental. This year’s expo spaces are sold out, and from 8 to 11 a.m., 20 groups will be offering information, giveaways, prize drawings and more in the Birchwood Gymnasium. The expo will also include information from personal trainers and fitness demo classes by Palatine Park District staff. The Healthy Living Expo is free and open to the public. Participate in the Healthy Passport challenge during the event to earn additional prize opportunities.

At 9 a.m., the second annual Healthy Living 5K Run/Walk will begin. The racecourse will travel through the neighborhoods surrounding Birchwood. The preregistration deadline is Monday, April 1. All preregistered participants will receive a T-shirt and race goody bag. The preregistration fee is $25. Race-day registration of $30 will be accepted, but shirts are not guaranteed for race-day registrants.

At 10 a.m., in partnership with the Bike Palatine Club, a 12-mile ride will be offered. The ride will start and end at Birchwood Park. Riders will receive a course map, bike support and support along the route. The preregistration fee is $25 through Monday, April 1, and day-of-ride registration is $30. Preregistered bike ride participants will also receive a T-shirt and goody bag.

Participants who choose to take part in both the run/walk and the ride will receive a $5 discount. Registrations forms are available at Birchwood, Community Center, and Falcon Park. Forms can also be downloaded at www.palatineparks.org.
