Library Announces Document Shredding Electronic Recycling Event

Free document shredding will be sponsored by the Schaumburg Township District Library during “Recycling Event 2013” from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., Saturday, April 20 in the School District 54 parking lot, 524 E. Schaumburg Rd. This annual event will also include recycling of small electronics, clothing and shoes, batteries, holiday light strands, copper, motor oil and antifreeze, bicycles, compact fluorescent light bulbs, cell phones, eye glasses, American flags and fire extinguishers.

“Recycling Event 2013” is free and easy. Volunteers at the event assist with each donation and unload items from vehicles. The library-sponsored document shredding is carried out by Doccu Shred, and even includes envelopes with windows, paper clips and staples. No plastics, CDs or plastic bags will be accepted. All shredded paper is recycled.

“This is a safe and convenient way to dispose of unwanted documents, small electronics and many other items,” said STDL Youth Services Director Melissa Jones, head of the library's Green Committee. “It's a great way to improve your home environment as well as the natural environment. We hope a lot of people will bring their items to this event instead adding to a landfill.”
