Burlington Central’s Morrow out for season

Burlington Central sophomore pitcher Angie Morrow will miss the 2013 high school softball season after undergoing shoulder surgery on March 29.

Morrow, a 5-foot-10 right-hander, was 15-4 for the Rockets last season, helping the team to a 28-9 season and a Class 3A regional championship.

“We hate to lose her presence on the mound and her bat in the lineup,” said Burlington Central coach Wade Maisto. “The good news is she’s a sophomore and we’re looking forward to her recovery and then two more years in the program.”

In addition to her 15 wins last year Morrow, who has verbally committed to Wisconsin, had a 1.62 ERA and struck out 114 batters in 134 innings. She also hit .390 with 6 doubles, 3 triples and 21 RBI while striking out just twice in 82 at-bats.

The pitching cupboard isn’t bare for the Rockets though. Freshman Emily Kisch has already won twice this spring, and junior Brooke Gaylord saw significant varsity action last year.

“We’ll miss Angie for sure but we’re fortunate to have two very good pitchers,” Maisto said.
