Illinois starts motorcycle safety program

Illinois transportation officials are starting a motorcycle safety campaign.

The Illinois Department of Transportation kicked off its “Gear Up Ride Smart” campaign on Wednesday. The effort is in partnership with Illinois State Police and motorcycle groups. Officials say the campaign promotes safe motorcycle riding through training and use of proper gear. It also reminds motorcyclists to get licensed and keep motorcycle equipment well maintained.

Illinois State Police say motorcyclists are more at risk of injury than any other motorists at any given time.
