Elgin CC splits in Florida

Robert Smith’s 2-run single in the sixth inning scored Anthony Drykacz and Jake Buhmann and held up as the winning runs as the Elgin Community College baseball team split a doubleheader with Madison Area Technical College Tuesday in Auburndale, Fla.

Madison won the first game 9-8, scoring on a walk off hit in the bottom of the ninth inning.

In the nightcap, John Menken had 3 hits including a home run and 2 RBI for the Spartans (4-4). Smith and Bobby Thorson each had 2 hits and Kyle Leone added a triple.

Chris Gorman got the win for ECC with 1 inning of relief. Josh Loynachan picked up the save.

In the opening-game loss, Sam Komel had a double, triple and 3 RBI for the Spartans, while Menken had a double and 3 RBI and Buhmann went 2-for-3 with an RBI.

Robert Sadowski suffered the pitching loss for the Spartans, who continue the trip with a twin bill today against Southeastern CC of Nebraska.
