Indiana gun licensing goes all-digital

SOUTH BEND, Ind. — The state of Indiana completed the switch to taking the entire firearms licensing process online.

Monday was the first day for all-digital firearms license applications. Indiana State Police spokesman Sgt. Ron Galaviz tells the South Bend Tribune the transition was a smooth one.

People now must apply for a state gun license over the Internet instead of on paper or mail. Galaviz says most applicants have been using the online process since it became available anyway.

Gun licensing is only one of the police-related processes going digital. On May 15, state police will begin accepting only electronic fingerprints instead of those filed on paper fingerprint cards.

Galaviz says 75 percent of fingerprints already are taken electronically.
