Educate skates to All-American honors

Sophomore forward Louie Educate became the first player in Utica College history to earn a spot on the American Hockey Coaches Association CCM Division III All-American East first team.

Educate, a 2008 graduate of Libertyville High School, was the youngest player recognized in the East Region. He adds to an impressive resume that also includes being named the ECAC West player of the year and first team all-conference a few weeks back. He led the conference with 35 points on 17 goals and 18 assists to guide the Pioneers to their first-ever at-large bid in the NCAA Division III tournament.

Utica was scheduled to take on the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire on Friday night in the semifinals at Herb Brooks Arena in Lake Placid, New York.

Educate was the only sophomore in the East Region to be named an All-American. He finished the regular season tied for the team lead with 19 points in conference play, and his 17 goals rank third on Utica’s all-time single-season list. He is also tied for the team lead with 3 game-winning goals. He needs 2 more goals to tie the school record of 19.

Educate, who spent his freshman campaign at Nichols College, has 77 career points (44 goals, 33 assists).
