Darien couple killed in fiery Westmont crash

A Darien couple died early Thursday when their vehicle hit a tree in Westmont, rolled over and caught fire, authorities said.

Officers responded about 3:20 a.m. to the 500 block of West 59th Street and found a Jeep Grand Cherokee engulfed in flames, according to a news release.

Police said there were two occupants in the vehicle and they both were pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities identified them as Arlene Klima, 71, and Richard Klima, 60, of the 1900 block of Holly Avenue in Darien.

DuPage County Coroner Richard Jorgensen said autopsies were planned for today.

The crash remained under investigation but police said it appeared the Jeep was traveling east on 59th Street when it went off the road, struck a tree and rolled over. Police said Richard Klima was driving.

West 59th Street between Williams Street and Fairview Avenue was closed after the crash and later reopened, authorities said.
