Man charged with Rolling Meadows copper thefts

A Downers Grove man who authorities say stole more than $28,000 in copper from a Rolling Meadows electronics firm where he worked faces theft charges.

At a bond hearing Wednesday in Rolling Meadows, Cook County prosecutors said Peter Dang, 51, of the 4000 block of Stanley Avenue, sold the stolen material to an Aurora recycling company.

Cook County Judge Jill Cerone Marisie ordered Dang held on $50,000 bail, requiring him to post $5,000 to be released from custody.

Aurora police informed Rolling Meadows police that a man matching Dang’s description periodically sold large amounts of new copper belonging to Methode Electronics to Aurora’s Get Green Recycling from March 17, 2012, through March 16, 2013, said Cook County Assistant State’s Attorney Moe Ahmad.

A representative from Methode Electronics declined to comment on Dang’s arrest or his employment status.

Dang, who has no criminal background, could face three to seven years in prison if convicted of the class 2 felony. Probation is also an option. He next appears in court on April 11.
