Cohen World War II column insult to U.S.

Richard Cohen’s editorial page column of March 12 is pathetic for the following reasons:

The Soviet Union does not deserve primary credit for defeating Nazi Germany. The United States does. It was the United States who sent aid to the Soviet Union, helping it push back the Nazis. It was the United States and its Allies who opened a second front in Europe, dramatically assisting the Soviet Union.

FDR wasn’t “passive in the face of the Holocaust.” Opening a second front was passive? Pushing the Nazis out of Africa and all the way up through Italy was passive? Please.

The best way to counteract the Nazi killing of Jews was exactly what FDR did.

No where in his inept column does Cohen acknowledge that the United States was also fighting Japan in the Pacific.

FDR ignored the genocide of Jews in Germany? Our defeat of Japan and our immense assistance in helping to defeat Nazi Germany is proof enough that the United States did indeed care about the Nazi genocide.
