Fire causes extensive damage to Carol Stream house

A fire caused extensive damage to a Carol Stream house Wednesday, but no one was hurt, officials said.

Firefighters responded shortly before 10 a.m. to the two-story structure on the 400 block of N. Blackhawk Drive.

The fire appeared to have started toward the rear of the home before spreading through a wall and into the attic, said Administrative Chief Perry Johnson of the Carol Stream Fire Protection District.

Johnson, citing preliminary reports, estimated damage at more than $100,000. He said a male homeowner was present when the fire broke out, but no one was injured.

Investigators remained on the scene Wednesday afternoon, trying to determine a cause.

Carol Stream firefighters were assisted by departments from several towns, including Bloomingdale, West Chicago, Wheaton and Winfield, Johnson said.
