Palatine Rugby Club offers options for boys and girls

The Palatine Rugby Club offers rugby for boys and girls from the rookie level through high school.

The club will offer Powder Puff Rugby for high school girls in April. The program will meet from 6-7 p.m. Mondays, April 1-29, at Falcon Park Recreation Center. The fee is $20 for residents and $30 for nonresidents, which includes a powder puff rugby T-shirt, rugby ball, and registration with USA Rugby. Register through Palatine Park District using code 5126-9.

The club also offers a High School Rugby Team that will play tackle rugby in the spring, summer and fall. Practices for this team will begin in March. Palatine Rugby Club encourages young women to try the team for a few weeks before committing to joining the program.

For younger boys, the club offers Palatine Pioneers Rugby. The season runs April through May, and the team participates in the iYRA Middle School Division with two sides: the Pioneers for seventh- and eighth-graders and the Junior Pioneers for younger or smaller players. Matches are generally played Sundays in a festival format, with all clubs playing at the same venue.

For high school boys, the club offers Palatine Barbarians Boys High School Rugby. These teams participate in the iYRA competitive season from March through May. Barbarians participate in the East Division of the Tier 2 Boys High School League with a Varsity and a Junior Varsity side, and they also compete in the iYRA Freshman-Sophomore Division.
