Des Plaines man charged in attack on conductor

A Des Plaines man was arrested in Mount Prospect on a battery charge after being accused of assaulting a conductor who ordered him off the train, a police report said.

Joseph R. Sachs, 43, of the 1300 block of Rand Road, Des Plaines, was arrested around 5:55 p.m. March 5 at the Metra depot, 11 E. Northwest Hwy., after he punched a Metra conductor in the face, knocked him down, and kicked him in the knee, the police report said.

According to reports, Sachs crossed in front of the train when he got onboard at an Arlington Heights station. The conductor told Sachs he would have to get off at the Mount Prospect station because he had walked in front of the train.

Sachs reportedly swore at the conductor but did get off in Mount Prospect. The conductor followed Sachs onto the platform to make sure he didn’t re-enter the train and the battery occurred there, reports said.

Sachs court date is March 20.
