Police: Man got haircut, then robbed salon

A McHenry man has been charged with armed robbery, police say, after he held up a hair salon moments after getting a haircut.

William Bolton, 36, of the 5000 block of Fox Lake Road, remains in Lake County jail in lieu of 100,000 bond, Fox Lake Police Lt. Mark Schindler said.

Bolton entered Cost Cutters at 2 Grand Avenue about 6:57 p.m. Friday and received a haircut, Schindler said. Instead of paying, he pulled out a large kitchen knife and said he was robbing the victim, Schindler said.

Bolton fled the store after taking about $250 in cash, police said.

The victim provided police with a detailed description of the robber. It was discovered a person matching that description had checked into the Fox Lake Motel at 25 S. Route 12, Schindler said. Officers conducted a photo lineup with the victim, who positively identified Bolton as the person who robbed the Cost Cutters.

During a search of Bolton's room, police found clothing he had worn during the robbery, Schindler said.
