Aurora man convicted of sexually assaulting child
An Aurora man faces at least 12 years in prison after he was convicted Wednesday of sexually preying on a child he knew, according to Kane County state’s attorney’s office.
Between September 2010 and March 2011, Ruben Betance-Lopez, 61, of the 700 block of Fourth Avenue, had sexual contact with a girl who was 6 years old at the time. The child’s mother alerted authorities when she witnessed what she believed was sexual contact between the two at Betance-Lopez’s residence.
Betance-Lopez was convicted of two counts of predatory criminal sexual assault and one count of aggravated criminal sexual abuse by Circuit Judge John Barsanti. He remains in the Kane County jail, where he has been held since his arrest in lieu of $2 million bail, and is scheduled to be sentenced at 1:30 p.m. April 12.
