Batavia, North Aurora libraries close; Arcada show postponed
The Batavia, Sugar Grove and Messenger public libraries have announced they are closing early today, due to the snow.
Messenger, in North Aurora, will close at 1 p.m. Sugar Grove will close at 4 p.m. Batavia will close at 5 p.m. It's the second time in a week Batavia has closed due to the weather. Library director George Scheetz said several factors go in to the decision, made by him with the advice of his deputy director.
“There is no magic formula,” he said.
He looks at forecasts for snow accumulation in the late afternoon and evening, when it starts to turn dark; considers whether police have asked people to stay off the roads; whether the staff, some of whom live as far away as West Dundee and Plainfield, can get to the library; how many people are at the library, including some people who use it as an unofficial warming shelter; and what the school and park district are doing.
As of noon, there were about 20 cars in the patrons' lot, he said.
Arcada closed
“The Doo Wop Project” show at the Arcada Theatre in St. Charles has been postponed. Onesti Entertainment said, on its website, that it hopes to reschedule it for a Sunday in May, and that current seats and tickets will be valid on that date.
