Endorsements: Somogyi, McPherson for Elk Grove District 59 board

Three candidates are running for two 2-year seats on the Elk Grove Township District 59 school board. Barbara Somogyi and Seana McPherson are both incumbents, challenged by newcomer John Strzelecki. Between Somogyi’s 34 years on the board and McPherson’s fresh take on the issues since joining the board a year ago, they are valuable members. The candidates agree on many of the issues, including the changes the Common Core standards will bring, keeping the district in good financial standing and handling current and future student diversity. McPherson offers a fresh perspective as a parent of children currently attending District 59 schools, while Somogyi’s experience on the board and history in the district cannot be overlooked. They are committed to keeping the district fiscally responsible and present a level-headed approach to issues like bullying. Somogyi and McPherson are the best choices to keep the district in great shape. Strzelecki, who also had children in the district at one time, chose not to participate in our endorsement process.
