Endorsement: Nelson for West Dundee village president

West Dundee, for all its charm, has suffered like other towns during the economic downturn, losing its Best Buy store, some businesses at Spring Hill Mall and a couple of marquee businesses downtown. Like some of its neighbors, the village certainly is not immune to the magnetic pull of Randall Road. That’s not to say West Dundee is in peril, but it does suggest that the town’s next village president should have the chops to go after business. Newcomer Chris Nelsonhas extensive municipal experience in towns that have vibrant commercial tax bases — Schaumburg and Hoffman Estates — having worked in a variety of capacities in village government. Now in the private sector, he knows the importance of going after economic development, and he certainly grasps the other important concepts of managing local government. Andy Yuscka has been a West Dundee trustee for 14 years. He’s been an admirer of Village President Larry Keller, who chose not to run for re-election. Yuscka has an easygoing manner and says he’s a good listener and focuses on the positives. Those are valuable traits, but Yuscka has been a largely silent partner on the board during all his years and has difficulty pointing to the mark he’s made. Nelsonis endorsed.
