When the spring youth sports seasons get started in Lake Zurich, there should be a new place to gather after a softball or soccer game.
Chasers Sports Bar & Grill is replacing the former Yogi's Pizza at 830 S. Rand Road. Chasers has operated a location in Niles for more than two decades and decided the time is right to expand to the north.
"It's a family-operated establishment," Helen Montanile said. She explained that her parents, Nick and Sophia Dalamangas, first started the restaurant on Milwaukee Avenue in Niles. Their son, Peter Dalamangas, will take on the day-to-day operations of the new Lake Zurich bar and eatery expected to open this spring.
The owners expect the Lake County business will be much like the one in Niles where families and sports teams come in during the day and early evening hours. After 10 p.m. the Chasers in Niles turns to an "over 21" crowd. It's a popular location to watch professional sporting games, the family said.
"I expect things to be pretty similar in Lake Zurich," Montanile said.
The menu will include burgers, pizza, hot dogs, foot-long Philly cheesesteak sandwiches and wings. Soups are homemade daily.
The new Lake Zurich Chasers building is currently undergoing a total renovation. A complete bar will be added and dozens of large-screen plasma televisions will line the walls.
Nick and Sophia Dalamangas operated their first restaurant in a bowling alley at the Golf Mill shopping center years ago. Their children, Helen, Peter and Penny, assisted in the restaurant business while growing up and are still involved the the business. They consider themselves family oriented and say they often donate to local sports teams.
Yogi's Pizza in Lake Zurich, which was frequented by families and sporting teams in the area, closed suddenly a year ago.
