3rd gas station robbery in Des Plaines

Des Plaines police are investigating the city's third gas station robbery this month — and the second at the Riverview Shell station on the 1600 block of South River Road. On Thursday, Feb. 28, a man entered the gas station and demanded money from the register. The cashier gave him an unspecified amount of cash and the offender fled on foot, police said. The man claimed to have a weapon but did not use it. Police are also investigating a Feb. 14 robbery under similar circumstances at the same station, when the robber made off on foot with roughly $2,492. He was described as 5-4 to 5-6, 215-230 pounds, and wearing a black hat concealing his face, black zipper sweater with a fur-lined hood, black pants and black gloves, police said. On Feb. 19, a man pointed a handgun at a 19-year-old clerk in a gas station at 2380 S. River Road and took approximately $300. That robber was wearing a black ski mask, black leather jacket, black track pants with white and red stripes on the sides, and black leather gloves, according to police.
