Burr Ridge man accused of possessing weapons cache
Police recovered a bulletproof vest and more than 900 rounds of ammunition from the home of a Burr Ridge man accused of possessing a stolen firearm, authorities said Monday.
Daniel Swayka, 20, of the 16W200 block of 94th Street, faces charges of possession of stolen property, possession of firearms and ammunition without a Firearm Owner’s Identification card, and possession of marijuana, police said.
Swayka is accused of having a gun that was stolen in a Sept. 27, 2012, burglary in Burr Ridge. A warrant for his arrest was issued earlier this month after police searched his home, recovering the stolen gun, a loaded shotgun, ammo of various calibers, a bulletproof vest and a small amount of marijuana, authorities said. The search took place after an “extensive investigation,” according to a news release.
Swayka surrendered Thursday and was released on a $10,000 bond, police said. His next court date is March 11. If convicted of the most serious charge, he could face up to five years in prison.
