Support democracy, attend town meeting
Support democracy, attend town meeting
A deadline important to exercising your obligations and rights as citizens in DuPage and Cook counties is fast approaching and many people are unaware of it. The deadline is for agenda items for the annual township meetings.
The annual township meeting in Bloomingdale Township is 6:30 p.m. April 16, at 6N050 Rosedale Road, Bloomingdale in the Senior Center. Mark your calendar and plan to attend or find out when and where your township meeting is located.
Township government is based on involving all registered voters in making decisions. Per the Illinois Constitution (60 ILCS 1/30-10), “any 15 or more registered voters in the township may request an agenda item for consideration by the electors at the annual meeting by giving written notice of a specific request to the township clerk no later than March 1 prior to the annual meeting.” Per the Illinois Constitution (60 ILCS 1/30-25), “the electors may take all necessary measure and give direction of the exercise of their corporate powers.”
Registered voters are electors. If you have a great idea to make your community better, take action and put it on the agenda. Township government is a celebration of our democratic spirit. It is time we all exercise these rights and make our communities even better.
