Westmont woman charged with stabbing husband to death

A Westmont woman will appear in bond court this morning after she was charged with murder in the stabbing death of her husband over the weekend, the DuPage County state’s attorney’s office announced Sunday. Lisa Davis, 42, of the 500 block of West 61st Street, faces one count of first-degree murder alleging she killed David Davis, 49, during a fight Friday night. Police said that at some point before the stabbing, the couple got into an argument that escalated and ended with Lisa Davis stabbing her husband in the stomach with a kitchen knife. Full story.

No injuries in Palatine house fire

A Palatine family is unable to use the second story of their home after a fire Sunday morning caused $40,000 in damages, officials said. The Palatine Fire Department responded to a house fire on the 600 block of East Thornhill Lane at 11:35 a.m. The fire was reported by neighbors who saw fire and smoke coming out of a second-floor window. Weather

The morning started out at about 31 degrees with mostly clear skies. Temperatures are expected to go up to 44 degrees today with some afternoon rain. The low tonight is 16 degrees and the cooler temps could bring some snow this evening. Full weather.

Traffic

Traffic is light on most of the tollways, thanks to President’s Day. There was an early accident on I-90 at the Barrington Road off ramp blocking three lanes of traffic. One lane was able to get through while an ambulance, police and fire trucks were on scene. Full traffic.

Blackhawks closing in on hottest NHL start ever

Here’s how the Blackhawks are looking at their improbable 12-0-3 record after 15 games: It’s not how you start but how you finish — as in winning the Stanley Cup. By defeating the Los Angeles Kings 3-2 yesterday at the United Center, the Hawks have gained at least 1 point in 15 straight games to begin the season, leaving them one game shy of Anaheim’s NHL record of 16. “What’s important to us is making the playoffs, and once we get there the real season starts,” Jonathan Toews said. Country star Mindy McCready dies at 37

Mindy McCready, who hit the top of the country charts before personal problems sidetracked her career, died yesterday at 37. A news release from the Cleburne County sheriff’s office says McCready was found dead with what appears to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Full story.

‘Wicked’ returning to Chicago

“Wicked,” the Tony Award-winning musical inspired by Gregory Maguire’s 1995 novel about the young witches of Oz before Dorothy dropped in, is returning to Chicago Oct. 30, for a limited run, Broadway in Chicago announced last night. This tour celebrating the 10th anniversary of the show’s Broadway debut marks the second time since Chicago’s production closed that “Wicked” has returned. Full story.

Deng scores 10, Noah 8 in All-Star Game

The Bulls’ Luol Deng and Joakim Noah, on the East squad in the NBA All-Star Game, got some playing time and some scoring opportunities — who didn’t in the defenseless 143-138 game? Well, Kevin Garnett wound up not scoring a point for the East team, but Deng scored 10 and Noah scored 8. Full story.
