The village of Huntley needs to review, revise and update their plans for adequate potable water, and its quality and quantity. The projected population growth and completion of new Centegra Hospital in Spring 2016 will impact greatly on water utilities. In addition, the competition of the I 90 interchange is expected to bring new businesses and industrial development to Huntley which will also increase the demand for water.Key Issue 2 According the the Huntley School District, the number of high school graduates is expected to exceed 1000 in number. Some of these graduates may not go on to collage and could benefit from learning skilled and semi skilled training ,thus providing a source for jobs created by new industries coming into Huntley and surrounding areas. I would encourage Mchenry county College and Elgin Community College to set up satellites to provide needed technical training.Key Issue 3 The revitalization of Huntley downtown is another important issue. I would promote creating a TIF district encouraging new bushiness. A hotel is greatly needed and eventually a venue for conventions and a technical complex. Finally formulating a plan for making Huntley destination for shoppers and small businesses as well.Questions Answers What makes you the best candidate for the job?My experience and knowledge as a former Huntley Village Trustee will help me continue my goals for the Huntley community as described in the above three questions. In addition, I was a member of the McHenry Ground Water Task Force that published the "Ground Water Conservation Report and Implementation Guidelines" for McHenry County towns and villages. During my term as trustee I represented Huntley at the McHenry County Council of Governments and was involved in two sub committees, transportation and the newly formed Northwest water Planning Alliance where I am currently a member.Given the delicate balance between the need for revenue and over-taxing local businesses, what is your opinion of your community's present level of local sales taxes? Is the tax just right, too low or too high? Explain.Compared to other communities in McHenry County, the Huntley sales tax is somewhere in the middle, between high and low. With expected growth, I believe there will be additional source of revenue and hopefully there will not be a need to increase taxes.Talking with your friends and neighbors, what seems to be their biggest public safety concern? Explain the concern as you see it, and discuss how you think it should be addressed. My Sun City neighbors are concerned about home burglaries and vandalism ..The police department has done community outreach programs alerting residents to be more aware of strangers and suspicious activity through emails and community meetings. As the population increases the police department may need to increase patrols and surveillance. In these tight economic times, municipal budgets have to be prioritized. Where, if anywhere, could the current budget be trimmed, and conversely, are there areas the budget does not give enough money to?The Village of Huntley has record of managing its budget prudently. Even in these difficult economic times Huntley has maintained a small surplus. With the upturn in the economy, the Village may not have to impose new taxes. What's one good idea you have to better the community that no one is talking about yet?During my term as Village Trustee, I supported the simplified "tele communication tax" levied to pay for Huntley's share of widening Il route 47, expansion of infrastructure south of I90, maintenance of roads and utilities and construction of the Huntley Village Hall. This tax was in partial payment along with a loan for the construction of the Village Complex. At that time I suggested when the loan was paid off,the board should review the tax levied and if possible reduce the tax burden on the public. Looking ahead to the construction of Centegra hospital, other properties and industry, additional tax revenues will be available to the Village.
