Naperville residents unhappy with smart meter-related arrests

Loud and frequent calls for Naperville City Manager Doug Krieger’s head on a platter and Police Chief Bob Marshall to turn in his badge and gun went loudly unanswered last night. Naperville residents crowded last night’s city council meeting to voice their displeasure with the recent arrests of two women who stood in the way of crews attempting to install wireless, electronic smart meters on their homes on Jan. 23. IDOT picks renovation plan for Circle Interchange

Plans to overhaul of the Circle Interchange have been pinpointed and will likely include fly over ramps, bypass ramps and additional through lanes to free up the congestion caused at the interchange connecting the Dan Ryan, Eisenhower and Kennedy expressways. About 300,000 vehicles travel through the interchange each day. Full story.

Three arrested after Elgin house full of animals condemned

Three people were arrested after they were found living with two children and several animals in a home, later condemned, that was teeming with animal feces, Elgin police announced yesterday. Cheryl D. Thacker, 66, and Randy G. McDonald, 51, were each charged with one count of cruel treatment to animals; Crystal M. Zwarton, 38, was charged with two counts of child neglect, Elgin Police Cmdr. Glenn Theriault said.

Second ex-Schaumburg cop released on bond

The second of three ex-Schaumburg police officers accused of operating a drug ring made bail yesterday. John Cichy posed a $25,000 bond. He faces a minimum of 24 years in prison, if convicted as charged. Full story.

Fallout continues in Schaumburg cop drug cases

A man facing six to 30 years in prison for dealing drugs had the charges dropped against him by Kane County prosecutors after his case was linked to the three Schaumburg police officers who were recently arrested on charges related to operating a drug ring. Full story.

Dental hygienist accused of unlicensed work in North Aurora

A dental hygienist is accused of doing unlicensed dental work, possibly on undocumented immigrants, during off hours at the North Aurora practice where she worked. Silvia Hernandez, 37, of the 400 block of Iowa Street in Aurora, is charged with unlawful practice of dentistry, deceptive practices and theft, according to Deputy Chief Scott Buziecki. Hernandez worked as a dental hygienist at North Aurora Dental Associates, 100 N. Lincolnway. Full story.

Oberweis’ attempt to oust GOP chairman rejected

Republican Sen. Jim Oberweis reserved a conference room on his own dime in an attempt to rally enough signatures to oust GOP party chair Pat Brady. Oberweis and some others within the party are upset with Brady’s public comments in support of gay marriage. Full story.

Northwestern joins forces with Wrigley

Expect more purple in Wrigleyville with the recent announcement that Northwestern University and the Cubs have agreed to several more Northwestern athletic events to be held at Wrigley Field, including five more college football games, as well as baseball and lacrosse. Full story.

Crawford, Hawks overcome rough start, get the win

Corey Crawford had a tough act to follow last night. With Blackhawks coach Joel Quenneville going back to Crawford, his No. 1 goaltender, despite Ray Emery’s 45-save effort at Calgary on Saturday, it was Crawford entrusted with beating the San Jose Sharks at HP Pavilion. Crawford had a rough start, giving up 3 goals in the first period, but he got better as the game went on and the Hawks overcame an early hole to beat the Sharks 5-3. Full story.
