Easy plumbing upgrades will make a big difference

Q. I would like to do some upgrades around my house. My question is — although my plumbing system is working properly, what are some easy plumbing upgrades you recommend to help my home and family?

A. Here are three basic plumbing upgrades that usually can be completed in about an hour for each project. You should be able to get all the materials at your local home center. Always follow the manufacturer’s instructions.

1. Upgrade your toilet seats: A new toilet seat usually brings a smile to everyone’s face. I recommend spending the extra money for a quality seat with some nice features, like a no-slam lid.

2. Upgrade your faucet aerators: New faucet aerators can make an old faucet run like new. Also, “high efficiency” aerators can help you save water.

3. Upgrade your showerhead: A new showerhead can change the entire look and feel of your tub and shower area. Some new-style heads even have lights and built-in music systems.
