Harper welcomes back Stiernberg Trio

Renowned Chicago mandolinist Don Stiernberg is bringing his trio to Harper College for an encore appearance filled with a blend of classics and improvisations on jazz, pop, Latin and bluegrass tunes. The concert is the latest in the College’s “Encores” series, intended to resurrect some of the most popular shows staged through Harper’s Community Music Center.

The “World on a String” concert is at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 16, in Rom A238 of Building A on the main campus, 1200 W. Algonquin Road in Palatine. The group will cover everything from Gershwin and Ellington to Stevie Wonder and Paul McCartney — with some original tunes, and laughs, thrown in.

“It’s such a treat to have this world-class group in a hometown venue,” says Henrietta Neeley, coordinator of Harper’s Community Music Center. “Every time this trio has performed on our campus, they’ve delivered a memorable evening. Our intent with this music series is to bring back the best of the best, and this group won’t disappoint.”

Tickets are $19 for general admission. Advance purchase is recommended. To reserve tickets, call (847) 925-6100 or visit www.harpercollege.edu/boxoffice.

The final concert in the Encores series, at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, March 16, will highlight returning guitarists Peter Aglinskas, Steve Suvada and Steve Vazquez in a “Guitar Heroes” blend of jazz, rock, R&B and classical favorites.
