Cleveland State defeats Illinois-Chicago 77-66

Marlin Mason scored a career-high 22 points and Junior Lomomba added 13 to lead Cleveland State to a 77-66 win against Illinois-Chicago on Saturday night.

Charlie Lee added 11 points and Bryn Forbes 10 for the Vikings (11-12, 3-6 Horizon League), who have won 12 consecutive games between the schools.

Gary Talton had 16 points and Daniel Barnes 14 for the Flames (14-9, 5-5), who shot just 37.5 percent (18 of 48) from the floor and were outrebounded 38-24.

Cleveland State took permanent control with a 12-0 run in which Illinois-Chicago went scoreless for 5:53. Lee’s 3-pointer ignited the surge, and Devon Long added five points.

Long’s three-point play with 13:58 remaining gave the Vikings a 46-28 lead, and the Flames got no closer than seven points the rest of the way.

Mason was 8 of 12 from the field and added six rebounds. Lee finished with 10 assists.
