‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’ in Palatine Feb 8, 9

ArtReach Educational Theatre, in partnership with Spotlite Theatrix Production Company, is staging “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 8 and Saturday, Feb. 9, at Bethel Lutheran Church, 3839 W. Frontage Road, in Palatine.

“A Midsummer Night’s Dream” is a play by William Shakespeare. Believed to have been written between 1590 and 1596, it portrays the events surrounding the marriage of the Duke of Athens, Theseus, and the Queen of the Amazons, Hippolyta.

These events include the adventures of four young Athenian lovers and a group of six amateur actors, who are controlled and manipulated by the fairies who inhabit the forest in which most of the play is set. The comedy is one of Shakespeare’s most popular works for the stage and is widely performed across the world.

The cast includes: Jonah Parra (Palatine) as Oberon, Breton Spiller (Mount Prospect) as Titania, Jamie Podgorny (Inverness) as Puck, Jackie Podgorny (Inverness) as Helena, Cassidy Murphy (Schaumburg) as Hermia, Caleb Mayhorn (Wheeling) as Lysander, Matt Goodmanson (Arlington Heights) as Demetrius, Joe Musto (Rolling Meadows) as Bottom, the Weaver, Cailin Bieda (Arlington Heights) as Hippolyta, and Michael Rau (Palatine) as Theseus.
