Current trustees are sole applicants for Fox River fire board election

The elected Fox River and Countryside Fire and Rescue District board is likely to look exactly like the current, appointed board.

The only five people to file for the five open positions were trustees Charles Dunham, James Gaffney Jr., John Gamboa, Robert Handley and Terry Jeglum.

The deadline to file nominating papers was Thursday.

Voters decided in a November referendum that the board should be elected, rather than appointed by the Kane and DuPage County boards’ chairmen.

After the election, the board will cast lots to determine who serves what length of term. State law says one will serve a six-year term, two will serve four-year terms and two will serve two-year terms.

Gaffney is also running for re-election to the St. Charles school board.
