Drake hands SIU fifth straight loss 61-56

CARBONDALE — Chris Hines scored 12 points and Richard Carter hit a key 3-pointer in the final minute as Drake defeated Southern Illinois 61-56 Wednesday night.

The Salukis(8-13, 1-9 Missouri Valley) overcame a 10-point second-half deficit and tied the game at 54-54 when Josh Swan hit 1 of 2 free throws with 1:33 remaining. But Carter followed with a 3 with 1:05 left and Drake (10-11, 4-6) hit 4 of 6 free throws the rest of the way to close the game on a 7-2 run.

Jordan Clarke added 11 points and Joey King had 10 for the Bulldogs, who hit 8 of 15 3-point attempts and shot 52 percent overall from the field. That helped overcome 20 turnovers.

Desmar Jackson had 15 points, nine rebounds and six assists for the Salukis, who have lost five straight. T.J. Lindsay added 11 points and Swan had 10.
