Daily Herald report

Palatine Township Elementary District 15 officials are preparing to send a modified survey seeking input on a proposed scheduling change that's drawn sharp criticism from some parents, Superintendent Scott Thompson said.

The new teachers contract includes a requirement for dedicated professional development time. To accommodate it, one day each week will be slated for either a late start or early dismissal.

Many parents who attended a special meeting Saturday on the issue were upset that an earlier survey didn't allow respondents to pick an early Friday dismissal as a preferred choice. Thompson said the committee will discuss survey questions at a meeting Tuesday, and that parents might see the survey by the week's end.
