A new 84-inch television, dubbed ultra high-definition with four times the pixels for a more realistic screen appearance, made its suburban debut Thursday.
Now, if you have $20,000 to spare, you can buy it for your home.
LG Electronics USA's engineers in Lincolnshire did the product testing and evaluations on the new TV, which will be sold for the first time in the area at Abt Electronics.
"Those who are likely to buy this would be the first-adopters," said LG spokesman John Taylor.
The flat-panel TV, known in the industry as Model 84LM9600, just won the Best of Innovations award at the recent Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas. It made its Chicago suburban debut Thursday with about 500 guests during a launch party at Abt.
The massive TV features screen resolution 8 million pixels, compared to about 2 million in other HD TVs. It also has LG's Cinema 3-D technology and the so-called Smart TV ecosystem that has over 1,000 apps, which gives users access to a growing range of premium content services. Users can browse and navigate through the Smart TV ecosystem using LG's remote and they can make commands with the control modes of voice recognition and other features, Taylor said.
LG said the massive TV "ushers in a new era in home entertainment.
"Picture quality has always been LG's foremost priority, one that's especially important now as manufacturers scale TVs to meet the trend line pointing toward larger and larger sizes," Jay Vandenbree, senior vice president, LG Electronics USA, and head of LG's U.S. home entertainment business, said in a statement.
